Premiums and Prizes are items given away free with the purchase of something, often a food. A Premium is acquired by sending in a certain number of proof of purchase to earn the item item. Prizes are items given away in the food packaging. This is a marketing concept similar to collector cards. They are sometimes known as Margarine Figures, or as Cereal Figures since they were frequently given by margarine and cereal companies during the 1950s. They were most common during the period of the 1950s and 60s. There were many themes. The companies linked here are known to have produced animal premium figures.
