Kingdom Protista was proposed to include eukaryotic organisms which are single cell or a colony of similar cells and which form no tissues. The kingdom was divided into protozoans, algae, and slime molds. Protists are polyphyletic because they did not descend from a common ancestor. Now Protista is an informal group of organisms that are not animals, plants, or fungi. In cladistic classification, this kingdom is considered obsolete, and replaced with separate monophyletic groups.
