domain | Eukaryota | Pediastrum is a genus of freshwater green algae. It is photoautotrophic with a fixed number of cells. Reproduction is sexual by the fusion of gametes, or asexual by producing autocolonies. Each cell in the parent colony produces a zoospore, which are freed to arrange themselves within a vesicle. Each cell can generate a daughter colony with the same number and arrangement of cells as the parent colony.
