| Charophyta is a division of freshwater green algae, the sister group of chlorophytes. Both belong to supergroup Archaeplastida. Charophytes gave rise to the terrestrial plants. Flagellate sperm are not present in some charophyte groups as they are for land plants and their closest charophyte relatives, such as stoneworts. Charophyta and Embryophyta together form the clade Streptophyta. For more information, visit the Wikipedia entry. Get back to Green algae | ||
