Donkey
| phylum | Chordata | The donkey or ass is a domesticated member of the Equidae or horse family. The wild ancestor of the donkey is the African wild ass, E. africanus. The donkey has been used as a working animal for at least 5000 years. There are more than 40 million donkeys in the world, mostly in underdeveloped countries, where they are used principally as draught or pack animals. Working donkeys are often associated with those living at or below subsistence levels. Small numbers of donkeys are kept for breeding or as pets in developed countries.

Poitou donkey
The Poitou donkey is originating in the Poitou region of France. It is one of the largest donkey breeds. The Poitou is known for its distinctive coat, called a cadanette, which if unkempt hangs in long, ungroomed cords. This trait is to a large extend inherited in crossbred animals.
A pure bred Pitou donkey has massive bone structure and large hooves. They have large, long heads, strong necks, long backs, short croups and round haunches.The ears are develop to such an extent that their weight sometimes causes them to be carried horizontally. The temperament of the Poitou has been described as "friendly, affectionate and docile".

The Provence Donkey, French: Âne de Provence, is a breed of domestic donkey from Provence, in south-eastern France. It is now distributed through much of central and south-east France, with the highest concentration in Provence and the Rhône-Alpes region.
