From Toy Animal Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search
domain Eukaryota Agathis, also called the kauri tree, is a genus of 21 species of conifers, part of the family Araucariaceae that was widespread in the Jurassic, now restricted to the Southern Hemisphere. Some species can reach a height of 60 m (200 ft) with little or no branching below the crown. Young leaves of Agathis are coppery-red. Male pollen cones appear at a later age than the female seed cones. The wood is used for the construction of yachts and guitars. Fossil trunks of extinct genus Araucarioxylon have weathered out of the Triassic Chinle Formation in the Petrified Forest National Park of Arizona.
