ZZ Riesen Kangaroo
|
The kangaroo Kangaroos move forward on long, strong hind legs with great leaps. They are jumping marsupials that are native to the vast steppes of Australia. But they can also still be found in New Guinea. An adult kangaroo, sitting on its hind legs, can be over 2 meters tall. It generally weighs up to 100 kg. Kangaroos have very short forelegs, long and substantially stronger hind legs, and a thick, round tail. The animals feed exclusively on plants. In the zoo, however, they also enjoy eating all kinds of fruits. Kangaroos do not reproduce as frequently in captivity as other animals. If a female in the zoo does give birth to young, she takes care of it herself and raises the small one, which weighs about 30 grams after birth, in her skin pouch (marsupium).
