Animal Murgon cannibal frog The text of the paper insert for this figure reads:

"Scientific Name: Lechriodus Pronounced: leck-ree-o-dus cas-ca
Type of Animal: Amphibian Period: Eocene (56-35 million years ago)

Australia's oldest fossil frog, the Murgon Cannibal frog is a close relative of a group of frogs still found today in Australia and New Guinea. These frogs get their unusual name from the fact that as tadpoles they often eat other tadpoles, even those of their own species. The adult Murgon Cannibal Frog probably fed mainly on insects and other small creatures."

There are still several living species of the genus Lechriodus in Australia and New Zealand, although the Murgon species is long extinct.
