Animal unspecified stegosaur The text of the paper insert for this figure reads:

"Scientific Name: Stegosaur Pronounced: steg-o-saw[sic]
Type of Animal: Reptile Period: Cretaceous (146-65 million years ago)

The Stegosaur was a four-legged, plant-eating dinosaur that grew to about six metres in length. It probably had two rows of bony plates running along its back, which might have helped control the dinosaur's body temperature. Slow-moving and not very intelligent, Stegosaur probably had a powerful tail armed with long spines which it could swing at an attacker."

Peak global stegosaur diversity matches up poorly with the age of good fossil deposits in Australia. As a result, even if they were once common, remains would be difficult to find. A trackway from the Early Cretaceous near Broome was tentatively referred to the Stegosauria, but the original fossil was stolen and is still missing. The trackway would not be referrable to any known genus of stegosaur, but this figure seems to be based on outdated reconstructions of Wuerhosaurus.
