phylum | Chordata | Wonambi is an extinct genus of large Neogene snakes known from Australian fossils. They reached lengths of five or six meters and probably used constriction to subdue prey. During the Paleogene, the family to which they belong was widespread, but they became extinct everywhere else in the world, and the last relicts died out about 50,000 years ago in Australia.
