phylum | Chordata | The warty frogfish or clown frogfish, Antennarius maculatus, can grow to 15 cm (5.9 in) long. The extensible skin is covered with wart-like praotuberances. Its large prognathous mouth allows it to consume prey its same size. Coloration is variable, changing in a few weeks, tending to match the environment. The first dorsal spine has a lure for use as a fishing rod. The pectoral and pelvic fins move the fish on the bottom and to keep a stable ambush position. Distribution if from the center of the Indian Ocean to the western Pacific Ocean.
