, are a large group of insects in the suborder Auchenorrhyncha and the order **Hemiptera** (true bugs). They are characterized by a grotesquely enlarged and ornate thoracic structure (pronotum) that often extends over the body, frequently mimicking plant thorns or other bizarre shapes for camouflage. With about 3,200 species in over 400 genera, they are found on all continents except Antarctica.
