phylum | Chordata | Thylacoleo is an extinct genus of carnivorous marsupial known from Pleistocene fossils of Australia. The premolars were modified into a set of blade-like psuedo-carnassials much like those found in true cats. Thylacoleo was highly specialized for preying upon large mammals, and with the decline of the Australian megafauna Thylacoleo also went extinct.
