phylum | Arthropoda | Sympetrum darwinianum (Selys, 1883) was originally described as a race of Diplax frequens, type locality Japan, before Ris (1911) established the existing generic combination. The species occupies a large range over most of China, Japan and the Korean Peninsula. In Japan, the type locality, the distribution includes all four principal islands comprising Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu and also includes many offshore islands including the Ryukyus.
