phylum | Echinodermata | Stichopus is a genus of sea cucumbers with about a dozen species, although there is disagreement about the classification. Several species have been reassigned to other genera. Size is relatively large, reaching up to 50 cm. They have soft quadrangular bodies covered on all four sides with thick tubercles. The genus is exploited for food and as a source of medicine.
