phylum | Chordata | Platypterygius is an ichthyosaur of the family Ophthalmosauridae. It is most closely related to the genera Caypullisaurus and Brachypterygius. The ichthyosaur lived from the Early Cretaceous(Hauterivian) to the earliest Late Cretaceous(Cenomanian) and had a cosmopolitan distribution.
