phylum Arthropoda Phyciodes mylitta, known as the Mylitta crescent, is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It is found in western North America, inhabiting a variety of habitats such as meadows and stream banks in forests. The adult has orange wings with black markings and white fringe on the edges; females are darker than males. The larva is black with spines and white markings, feeding mainly on Cirsium and Carduus species.
