phylum Chordata Keichousaurus is a genus in the pachypleurosaur family that went extinct at the end of the Triassic. The first fossil was named for Kweichow (now Guizhou Provence), China. This primitive lineage within Sauropterygia is popular with fossil collectors. Some specimens reach 2.7 m in length. As marine fish eaters, females may have given birth to live young.
