phylum | Chordata | The green neon tetra is a small characin native to the Orinoco basin and the Negro River (a tributary of the Amazon). Its habitat is high-tannin, low pH (~6), soft waters, and it requires high temperatures to thrive. It can be distinguished from the neon tetra P. innesi by its more pronounced iridescent blue flank stripe, and its smaller pigment-based red one. It does not typically exceed 3.5 cm in length.
