phylum | Arthropoda | Branchinella kugenumaensis is a crustacean in the order Anostraca, whose members are known as fairy shrimp. The average length of this species is about 25 mm (1 in). It is found in India, Korea, China, and Japan. When swimming, the animal's ventral side is uppermost, often described as swimming upside-down. It filters food as it swims, but also scrapes algae from solid surfaces. Anostracan genus Artemia, brine shrimp, is used as fish food in aquaculture.
