On almost all farms in Europe, and in thousands of homes, we have a "cat"-cat or more than one. Often nobody knows who the dad was, and who cares? Looking at Wikipedia, you will see that they certainly stem from : Sweeden, UK, Finland etc... but the fact is that they have been in Europe as tame cats for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years, and in (Northern) Europe these have a uniform look, which surely makes them a breed. In the 80´s it was decided that of course they are a breed, and it was named "European Shorthair".

FIFe made a standard : European Shorthair and often a nice "Cat"-cat without pedigree can win prizes at shows.

No matter the breed, many model cats would not have much chance at a cat show, but here are some beautiful "European Shorthairs"
