Effelder
The PGH Effelder was an incorparation of the toymakers in the former municipality of Mengersgereuthin East Germany (DDR). Mengersgereuth was just north of Steinach, the base of DDR-business VEB Plaho, and the story of PHG Effelder is probably very similar.
The letters PHG stands for Produtionsgenossenschaft e.i. Production cooperative, the system also known from the cooperative farming during this time.
PHG Effelder is best known for their toy soldiers, western models and some beautyful models of native Africans. These were made in composition material untill 1960, when the production switched completely to plastic.
Plastic animal production seems to have been primarily poultry - chickens, geese, and ducks.
