phylum Arthropoda Junonia coenia, known as the common buckeye or buckeye, is a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family. Its original ancestry has been traced to Africa, which then experiences divergence in Asia. Common buckeye butterflies are colored brown with eyespots that tend to be large. They also exhibit green overtones and have wings that span between 2 and 2.5 inches.
