It is one of the most common species of land snail in Europe, and has been introduced to North America. The shell of this species is highly polymorphic, meaning it varies greatly in color and banding patterns. Shell colors typically range from yellow to pink to brown, and they may have up to five dark spiral bands. The shell lip is usually dark brown or black, contrasting with the lighter shell color.
