phylum Mollusca The white-lipped snail (Cepaea hortensis) is a medium-sized species of air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc. It is a close relative of the grove snail (Cepaea nemoralis). This species is native to Western and Central Europe and has been introduced to parts of North America. Like its relative, the shell of Cepaea hortensis is highly polymorphic, but is typically yellow, pink, or pale brown, often marked with dark spiral bands. It is distinguished from the grove snail primarily by its white or pale lip (aperture rim), which remains light in color.
