phylum | Chordata | Brachauchenius ("short-necked") is an extinct genus of pliosaur known from the Turonian stage (Late Cretaceous) of North America. As such, it represents the latest known North American pliosaur. Brachauchenius inhabited the inland sea that lay over what is now the American prairie. Its skull was about 90 cm in length, and the animal's total length was about 10 m (33 feet).
