| phylum | Arthropoda | Bombus affinis (the Rusty-patched Bumble Bee) is a highly social bumblebee in the family Apidae. It is native to eastern North America, but its population has declined severely since the late 1990s, making it one of the first bee species in the continental U.S. to be listed as federally endangered. It is distinguishable by a small, rusty-colored patch of hair on the second abdominal segment of workers and males.
