The Bichon is an ancient type of dog , originally used as ship dogs, but with its charming disposition it became popular among the nobility of the North-Western part of the Mediterranian, and from 1500 it was very popular at the royal courts in Southern Europe.
It is a small dog that weighs approximately 5–10 kg (10–20 lbs) and stands 23–30 cm (9–12 in) at the withers, but slightly larger dogs are not uncommon.
