phylum | Arthropoda | Atergatis integerrimus is a nocturnal species which lives in coral rubble around shores and reefs in the Indo-Pacific region. It is a scavenger and an ominvore, eating algae, dead fish, and invertebrates. It has an oval-shaped carapace that is anywhere from dark red to red-orange in color, scattered with white spots. Juveniles have a white margin around the body. The bashful crab is highly toxic when consumed. It has never been successfully kept in captivity.
