phylum | Chordata | Arandaspis prionotolepis is an extinct species of jawless fish that lived in the Ordovician period, about 480 to 470 million years ago. Fossils were found in Alice Springs, Australia in 1959, named after a local Aboriginal tribe, the Aranda. Length was about 15 cm (6 in). It probably was a filter feeder. The front of the body was covered with hard plates. It had no fins and used a flattened tail to swim.
