phylum | Arthropoda | Acutiramus macrophthalmus is an extinct species of eurypterid, which lived during the Silurian period, 443 to 419 million years ago. Fossils have been found in the United States and Canada, with a length up to 2 meters (6.6 ft.) Poor vision may indicate that it was a nocturnal ambush predation or scavenger. The large tooth in the center of the pinchers points forward at an acute angle.
